• Vidulgi OoyoO  비둘기 우유

Vidulgi OoyoO is a Korean top post rock band based on noise and shoegaze. Their 1st release `AERO` was nominated on The Korean Popmusic Awards in 2009 over 3 fields. And a split cd with Bliss.City.East in Chicago is supposed to be released in Korea and U.S in March 2010.

비둘기 우유는 노이즈와 쇼게이즈 장르에서 한국 최고의 포스트 록밴드입니다. 첫 앨범인 ‘AERO’는 2009년 한국 팝뮤직 시상식에서 3개 부문에 노미네이트 되었습니다. 그리고 시카고의 Bliss.City.East와 함께한 음반이 2010년 3월에 한국과 미국에서 동시에 출시될 예정입니다.

I’m from Canada, and have been performing my songs for the last four years in Korea.  I have yet to break out into a more international scene.   Prior to being a singer/songwriter, I was an actor.  I’ve been singing and playing guitar for a long time, but until I came to Korea, only in the privacy of my own room.  Korea has been a great place for me to break out and experiment musically.  I’ve been living in Korea on and off for 4 years, and came here to experience something new.  I’ve travelled a lot in between contracts, and am here now enjoying the artist scene.

“저는 캐나다에서 와서, 지난 4년 간 한국에서 공연해 왔습니다. 그렇지만 아직도 좀 더 국제적으로 활동하고 싶습니다. 제가 싱어송라이터가 되기 전에는 배우였습니다. 그래서 노래하고 기타 연주를 한 지는 오래 되었지만, 한국에 오기 전에는 취미로 방 안에서 혼자 할 뿐이었습니다. 저에게 한국은, 방에서 나와서 음악적으로 경험을 쌓을 아주 좋은 장소가 되어 주었습니다. 제가 무언가 새로운 것을 경험하기 위해 한국에 살며 동분서주한 지도 어느덧 4년이 넘었습니다. 저는 휴가 때마다 세계 곳곳을 여행 해왔으며, 다른 아티스트 분들과 함께 즐거운 공연을 하기 위해 지금 이곳, 한국에 왔습니다.”

• Zee Kang of The Pines 더 파인즈의 지강

 Zee “Lioness” Kang is a Seoul-based musician and has been performing in the local music scene since 2005. At the moment, she is involved in musical projects “The Pines” and “A to Z”. She believes in music, life and magic.

“라이오네스”의 지강은 2005년에 결성된 이후, 주로 서울에서 공연했습니다. 지강은 프로젝트 그룹인 “더 파인즈”와 “A to Z”에도 참여한 바 있습니다. 그녀는 음악과 인생, 그리고 마법을 믿는답니다.

• Dringe Augh 드린지 오

Since 1997, Dringh Augh has been playing club shows as a singer-songwriter. From his first ep Milky Way (2001) he has made further recordings and art by himself: Caramel Home (2001), Chocolate Lounge (2007), Banana Bath(2008),  Rye Downstairs (2008). Finally, in 2009 his first public ep Individually Wrapped (Electric Muse) was released. He wants to talk about his dreams and thoughts with simple acoustic songs.

• Orgeltanz 오르겔탄츠

Orgeltanz are a Korean world music band with the rhythm of the tango, gypsy-esq melodies, and a touch of breezy bossa nova.  Orgeltanz is a combination of two words “orgel” (a word used for a music box) and “tanz” (meaning dance in German).  Their music features an accordion, guitars, percussion, and a violin.  They’ve performed at large outdoor events such as Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival, Jeonju International Film Festival, Green Film Festival, Grand Mint Festival, Chuncheon International Mime Festival as well as all three Wild Women’s Performing Arts Festivals. They’ve appeared on MBC television music programs Lalala and Nanjang.  They’ve been interviewed in Korean editions of VOGUE, Harpers’s Bazaar, Dazed and Confused and many others.  They released their first album, now available on itunes “From the Cradle to the Grave” in late 2008.

오르겔탄츠는 탱고, 집시 멜로디, 브리지 보사노바 리듬의 월드뮤직 밴드입니다. 오르겔탄츠는 음악상자라는 의미의 “오르겔”과, 독일어로 춤을 의미하는 “탄츠”를 합친 이름입니다. 오르겔탄츠는 아코디언, 기타, 페르커신, 그리고 바이올린으로 연주하는 것이 그 특징입니다. 인천 펜타포트 락 페스티벌, 전주 국제 영화제, 그린 필름 축제, 그랜드 민트 페스티벌, 춘천 국제 마임 축제, 그리고 Wild Women’s Performing Arts Festival와 같은 대규모의 행사에서 공연해 왔으며, 한국판 보그, 하퍼스 바자, Dazed and Confused 등 많은 잡지에 소개되었습니다. 2008년 말에 출시된 오르겔탄츠의 첫 앨범, “From the Cradle to the Grave”는 지금 아이튠에서 들을 수 있습니다.

• Bigbabydriver  빅베이비드라이버

“Bigbabydriver” is the solo project of sp from indie rock band atombook. Bigbabydriver’s music is a merging of acoustic blues and folky pop, with a hint of county and indie rock.  She was also former member of world music band Orgeltanz,
so you can pick some other influences. Anyway, simple, no-frills, introspective but stays melodic is what Bigbabydriver wants to play. Bigbabydriver is currently gigging around Hong Dae area, mainly Club BBang & Salon Badabie. And preparing the 1st album, which is schedule in April or May.

빅베이비드라이버는 인디 락밴드인 아톰북의 sp의 솔로 프로젝트입니다. 그들의 음악은 컨츄리와 인디락을 가미한 포키 팝과 어쿠스틱 블루스의 느낌입니다. 그녀는 월드 뮤직 밴드인 오르겔탄츠의 전 멤버로 활동했기 때문에, 약간의 음악적 영향을 느낄 수도 있습니다. 간단하고, 소박하고, 사색적이면서도 멜로디컬한 것이 빅베이비드라이버의 특징입니다. 빅베이비드라이버는 요즘 홍대의 클럽 빵과 살롱 바다비에서 공연하며 4~5월에 출시 예정인 첫 앨범을 준비하고 있습니다.

Paula Wilson is a Mainiac. (Meaning she is a person from Maine, not that she is crazy.) She went to school for Set Design and Production Management, then started dancing to supplement her production studies, then decided to audition for a dance conservatory on a dare from one of her dance teachers, and got in. She left Production Management and danced professionally onstage, in commercials, and a couple music videos until she got too old, and began acting instead. She has a production company in the US, which is currently in post-production on a film short she directed (she is using her time in Korea to pay for post) and her performance in the film “Life’s Passing My By” was ranked as the 2nd Best Performance by an African-American Actress on Film in 2009 by Black BoxOffice. She teaches acting and dance to Koreans and Expats. You can check her out at www.paulawilson.info.

폴라 윌슨은 Mainiac 입니다. (오타쿠라는 게 아니라 Maine 주에서 온 사람이라구요.) 폴라는 대학교에서 무대 디자인과 제작 관리를 전공했는데, 제작 스튜디오 준비를 하다가 춤을 추기 시작한 뒤, 댄스 선생님의 추천으로 오디션에 나가서 우승했습니다. 폴라는 제작 관리 공부를 그만두고, 여러 뮤직 비디오와 광고에서 전문적으로 춤을 추었습니다. 또한 그녀는 나이가 들은 뒤에 연기를 시작했습니다.

폴라는 미국에 프로덕션 회사를 갖고 있습니다. 최근에 그 회사는 그녀가 감독한 영화를 제작 준비 중입니다. (폴라는 한국에서 그 제작 비용을 벌기 위해 시간을 보내고 있답니다.) 그리고 그녀가 영화에서 공연한 “Life’s Passing My By”는 2009년 Black Box Office에서 미국 흑인 여배우 중 두 번째로 최고의 공연으로 선정되었습니다. 폴라는 요즘 외국인들과 한국인들에게 춤과 연기를 가르치고 있습니다. www.paulawilson.info 에서 그녀의 근황을 볼 수 있습니다.

• Carlita Ector  칼리타 엑토

Carlita V. Ector is a Raleigh, North Carolina native. She attended The University of NC Greensboro; receiving a BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography, K-12 Teaching License in Dance Education, and Spanish. Professional credits include touring nationally with Chuck Davis and The African American Dance Ensemble, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre, Chiku Awali African Dance Company, Christal Browns’ INSPIRIT, and Shani Collins/Eternal Works. She also co-directs re: Verb Dance Company with Love Muwwakkil (http://www.dancecve.com/reverb). Her choreography has been presented in NYC and Seoul, South Korea. Carlita has performed evening length works at the American Dance Festival (NC), Dance Africa (TX), Jacob’s Pillow (NY), Dance Theatre Workshop (NY), and the Ailey Citigroup Theatre (NY). Theatre credits include The Semantics of Intercourse, Cookies, and Tribute to Poe with Xoregos Performing Company. Television/Film appearances include: Law & Order SVU, Conspiracy X, and Step Up 3D.  Carlita currently performs original musical theatre works in South Korea with Gyeonggi English Village.

Dancing with Calita is Emily Mara, a native of the United States moved to Korea five months ago from New York City.  After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the University of Central Florida she traveled around the U.S. performing in various musicals as a dancer and singer.   She received most of her training in ballet, jazz, lyrical, and hip-hop at The Stowe Dance Academy in the state of Vermont.  She also received training from various teachers at the University of Central Florida as well as New York City’s Circle in the Square Theater School.  Some of her favorite roles include, Magenta in The Rocky Horror Show, Meredith in Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and a featured singer/dancer in the Actor’s Playhouse production of Footloose.  She is excited to be able to practice her art here at The Wild Women’s Festival!

칼리타와 함께 춤추는 에밀리 마라는 5달 전 뉴욕에서 온 미국인입니다. 에밀리는The University of Central Florida에서 뮤지컬 학사 학위를 받은 뒤, 가수이자 댄서로써 다양한 뮤지컬 공연을 하면서 미국을 여행했습니다. 그녀는 버몬트 주의 The Stowe Dance Academy에서 힘합, 릴리컬, 재즈, 발레 등을 배웠고, University of Central Florida와 New York City’s Circle in the Square Theater School에서 다양한 강사들로부터 교육을 받았습니다. 그리고 에밀리가 맡았던 배역 중에서 그녀가 가장 좋아했던 역할은 The Rocky Horror Show의 Magenta, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress의 Meredith, The Actor’s Playhouse production of Footloose의 가수 겸 댄서입니다. 에밀리는 The Wild Women’s Festival에서 공연하기를 기다리고 있답니다!

• May Tribal Fusion  메이 트라이벌 퓨젼

Seoul’s May is one of the city’s top Tribal fusion dancers. She has trained in South Korea, the United States, Canada, Turkey, Egypt and Japan. She has taken part in California’s Tribal Fest, where in 2008, she became the first Korean belly dancer to have a solo performance at the world renowned dance event.

메이는 서울 최고의 트라이벌 댄서입니다. 한국, 미국, 캐나다, 터키, 이집트, 일본 등 세계 각지에서 훈련한 그녀는 2008년 캘리포니아 트라이벌 축제에서 공연한 적이 있는데, 그녀는 세계적으로 유명한 댄스 이벤트에서 처음으로 솔로 공연을 한 한국 밸리댄서입니다.

• Navah  나바

Navah are a bellydance troupe based out of the Well Being Studio in Itaewon, directed by Eshe.  Navah means “beautiful” in Hebrew and “tune” in Farsi.  Their first show was in July 2008.  Since then they’ve performed at grand openings, specialty nights, self-produced “Love Dance” events and various charity shows including all three Wild Women’s Performing Arts Festivals.  Navah’s members have hailed from all corners of the globe, the current line-up includes dancers from Canada, America and England.

나바는 에쉬가 감독하는 이태원의 웰빙 스튜디오의 밸리댄스 그룹입니다. 나바는 히브리어로 “아름다움”과, 페르시아어로 “곡조”를 의미합니다. 나바의 첫 공연은 2008년 7월에 있었는데, 그 이후로 그들은 Wild Women’s Performing Arts Festival을 포함한 다양한 자선 공연 및 자체 제작한 “Love Dance”, 특별한 밤, 행사 오프닝 등에서 공연해 왔습니다. 나바의 멤버들은 지구 곳곳에서 왔습니다. 현재의 멤버들 중에는 영국인, 미국인, 캐나다인 등이 있습니다.

• Charlene Jones  샬린  존스

Possessing the elegance and grace of Mary Angelou, the cultural hippness of Nikki Giovanni and the in-your-face street smarts of Ice Cube, Charlene Jones is a soulful sister who brilliantly combines poetry with acting and passionate movement. Exuding more confidence than most people have on a good day, Charlene delivers powerful, thought-provoking and inspirational works of art through her spoken word.

This former model has opened for various stage plays including the critically aclaimed “Dutchman” by Amri Bakara (Improv Theatre, West Hollywood, CA) as well as “Ruby Blake” and “Surface Transit,” at the HBO Workspace at the Melrose Theatre. She was one of the few selected to participate in the exclusive Potrero Hill Actor’s Workshop taught by Danny Glover. Charleene has been featured in various films including “Poetic Justice,” “So I Married An Axe Murderer,” “Sister Act II,” and “When A Man Loves A Women.”

메리 안젤루(Mary Angelou)의 기품과 품위, 니키 지오바니(Nikki Giovanni)의 문화적 세련됨, 아이스 큐브(Ice Cube)의 대담함을 지니고 있는 샬린 존스(Charlene Jones)는 시와 정열적인 움직임을 멋지게 결합한 감정이 풍부한 예술가다. 대부분의 사람들이 운이 즐거운 하루를 보낼 때 보다 더 풍부한 자신감을 보여주는 그녀는 자신의 말로 힘있고, 진지하게 생각을 하게 하며, 삶에 자극을 주는 예술을 선보인다.

예전 모델이었던  그녀는 평판이 높았던 암리 바카라(Amri Bakara)의 ‘더치맨(Dutchman)’에 출연했고, 멜로즈 극장(Melrose Theatre)에서 HBO의 “루비 블레이크(Ruby Blake)”, “써피스 트랜짓(Surface Transit)”에 출연하는 등 다양한 역을 맡아왔다. 그녀는 대니 글로버(Danny Glover)가 가르치는 Potrero Hill Actor’s Workshop taught에 참가한 몇 명이 되지 않는 사람들 중 한 명이었다. 그녀는 “시적정의(Poetic Justice)”, “그래서 난 도끼살인자와 결혼했다(So I Married An Axe Murderer)”, “시스터액트2(Sister Act II),” 그리고 “남자가 여자를 사랑할 때(When A Man Loves A Women).”등 다양한 영화에도 출연했다.

• Carys Jones  캐리 존스

UK native Carys Jones has been writing poetry since she was a child and has been performing her own material in public since 2006, when she shared a stage with critically acclaimed British spoken word artist Zena Edwards and multiple award-winning jazz/hip hop musician Soweto Kinch. Since then, Carys has performed at several events in England and Korea. Recently, she appeared as a featured artist on the TV show Verbalizm in the UK and is currently recording some tracks with local producers.

영국 토박이인 캐리 존스는 어릴 때부터 시를 써왔으며 2006년도부터는 대중들에게 자신의 작품을 선보여왔다. 2006년에 그녀는 영국의 연설가로 잘 알려진 제나 에드워즈(Zena Edwards)와 다양한 상을 받은 재즈/힙합 음악가 소위토 킨치(Soweto Kinch)와 함께 작업을 했다. 그 이후로 캐리는 영국과 한국을 넘나들며 공연을 했다. 최근에 그녀는 영국의 TV 프로그램 ‘어구비평(Verbalizm)’에서 특집으로 그녀를 다루기도 했으며 현재는 현지 프로듀서들과 함께 음악을 녹음 중이다. 

• Chloe Lee  클로이  리

Chloe Lee Myung Hyun was born in Seoul, and spent most of her developing years in Singapore and in the U.S. An aspiring writer/spoken word artist, she is currently finishing her undergrad studies in Chinese and International Studies. She is also a content producer and writer for Eloquence magazine. Formerly a self-proclaimed essayist, she was exposed to spoken word through the popular television series Def Poetry Jam, which sparked her interest in the genre. As a Korean, she hopes to introduce spoken word to the Korean audience—a tangible dream the day Koreans from all walks of life can step on stage in front of a mic be it storytellers, political commentators, orators, ranters.

클로이 이명현(Chloe Lee Myung Hyun)은 서울에서 태어났으며 어릴 때는 싱가포르와 미국에서 대부분의 시간을 보냈다. 최근 졸업을 한 그녀는 중국어와 국제학을 전공하였다. 능력 있는 작가 겸 연설가이자 ‘엘러퀀스지(Eloquence)’의 콘텐츠프로듀서이다. 수필가였던 그녀는 연설에 있어 자신에게 큰 영향을 준 유명한 TV시리즈인 Def Poetry Jam을 통해 이 분야에 입문했다. 그녀는 한국인으로써, 한국의 관객들 앞에서 하루빨리 연설을 하길 기다리고 있다. 

 

• Heather Hong  헤더  홍

Heather Hong is a poet from Maryland. She has performed in various venues in Washington D.C. Her mentor in D.C. was Regie Cabico, an amazing Asian-American spoken word poet who has been a great influence in her life. Her goal in life is to fall in love twice everyday.

메릴랜드(Maryland)의 시인인 헤더 홍(Heather Hong)은 워싱턴의 다양한 곳에서 공연을 해왔다. 그녀의 멘토는 그녀의 인생에 큰 영향을 준 워싱턴의 유명한 아시아계 미국인 연설가이자 시인인 Regie Cabico이다. 그녀의 인생목표는 매일 두 번씩 사랑에 빠지는 것이다. 

• Heather De Vilbiss

Nothing fancy – just a girl who loves to sing and play the piano. Heather De Vilbiss’ parents met singing on stage studying at university, with her mother being a classical pianist and her father a church musician. It could be said, then, that she grew up knowing nothing but of singing and playing piano, having her first solo performance in a church at the age of four years of age. From that point on she was involved in various musical theater performances, performance, and touring groups. She also became an accomplished classical musician, participating in various music festivals and competitions well into her college years, during which she also had the opportunity to perform with various professional orchestras in the United States and in Europe. She took time off from music to focus on her university studies, but she is now diving headfirst into music again, her passion and love in life.

헤더 드  빌비스(Heather De Vilbiss)는 화려한 것 보다는 단지 노래 부르고 피아노 치는 것을 좋아하는 소녀다. 피아니스트인 어머니와 교회 음악가인 아버지는 대학 무대에서 노래를 부르다가 만났다. 그래서인지 그녀는 자라면서 노래와 피아노 치는 것을 자연스럽게 배웠고 그녀의 첫 솔로 공연을 4살 때 교회에서 했다. 그 이후로 다양한 연극 음악공연에 참여했고 투어공연을 가기도 했다. 그리고 대학생 때는 다양한 음악 축제와 대회에 참가하며 뛰어난 클래식 뮤지션이 되었다. 또한 미국과 유럽에서 많은 전문 오케스트라와 함께 공연할 수 있는 기회도 가졌다. 잠시 음악보다는 대학 공부에 전념했지만 현재는 그녀의 정열이 가득하고 인생에서 가장 소중한 음악에 다시 많은 시간을 보내고 있다. 

 

• Jyoung-Ah Kim  김정아

Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Jyoung-Ah Kim has always considered herself as a Korean-Texan rather than a Korean-American (as a matter of fact, please read this with a Texas accent).  Jyoung-Ah moved to Korea in September of 2002 to conquer this part of the world.  Since then, she has been committed to help in stopping violence against women and girls and to help empower them by volunteering with several non-profit organizations and events.  She helped organize the International Outreach Team with the House of Sharing:  Home of the former “Comfort Women” – Japanese sexual slavery victims since 2006 and was lucky enough to work with amazing women to help organize V-Day 2007 and 2008; focusing on domestic violence and local sex trafficking.  Jyoung-Ah does not consider herself as a Spoken Word Artist in any way shape or form.  She just loves her vagina and her vagina wants to say – Power to the Vagina!  Jyoung-Ah hopes that both men and women can truly embrace vagina power as she will perform one monologue from Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues for WWPAF 2010.

텍사스 주 댈러스(Dallas)에서 태어나 자란 김정아는 한국계 미국인이라기 보다는 한국계 텍사스인으로 항상 자신을 생각해왔다. 김정아는 2002년 9월 자신을 알리기 위해 한국으로 들어왔다. 그 이후로 그녀는 여성과 소녀들에게 행해지는 폭력 근절을 위해 힘써왔고 몇몇 비영리단체들과 행사에 자원봉사를 함으로써 그들에게 자신감을 심어주기 위해 노력했다. 그녀는 나눔의 집과 함께 the International Outreach Team을 조직했다. 예전에 ‘여성들의 쉼터’라는 이름이었던 이 단체는 가정폭력과 성매매에 초점을 맞췄다. 김정아는 그녀 자신을 거창하게 ‘연설가’라고 칭하지 않으며, 단지 성에 대한 열려있는 생각을 사람들과 공유하기를 원한다. 김정아는 2010년 이번 행사에서 Eve Ensler’s The Vagina의 모놀로그에서 한 구절을 공연할 것이다.
